Lima’s Ínsuas (small islands)

The group of islands (ínsuas) found in the river’s estuary have been classified as a Natural Monument in 2016 as per Decree-Law number 142/2008. Its importance lies in the reverse faults of the islands (NNW-SSE) and the Lima fault (ENE.WSW). These structures contributed to the depth of the basin of the river’s mouth, extended to the alluvial plain which presents different land heights on the two banks.
